The leap from the original "Zio" designed by my son to what exists today was totally unexpected to me. I am very thankful for everyone who has helped support my mission and encouraged me along the way.
When I first began, I was under the impression that as I gained experience, drums would be completed easier and in less time. I was wrong. I now pay attention little details that were non-existent to me before. Even though I work longer hours, drums take longer to make and require better materials. I'm glad that I've learned what I have and feel that it is now time to enter a new phase of experimentation/creation.
This will be a huge leap for me and I can only hope that it is the right choice.
My ultimate goal is to fully focus on creative progress. I consulted my son about this thought and what he said to me made a lot of sense;
1. Even though my drums have evolved and my processes have become more extensive/costly, the price has remained the same.
2. Completely eliminating the ability for customers to purchase a custom drum would be counter-productive and would make it too difficult for someone to get their hands on their own Lotus Drum in a tuning of their choice.
3. Freely creating drums would allow them to be priced independently. They are all unique creations and no two sound or look the same.
My son is a logically-minded individual and I trust his judgement.
Here's what we concluded:
By slightly increasing the price on custom drums, it would slow the number of custom orders providing more time to focus on free-form creation in a more variable price-range; increasing availability for everyone.
The dream is to have a page on the website stocked with already-made creations in a variety of scales ready to be shipped out without delay but also continuing to offer the option of custom-tuned and decorated instruments to those who need something specific. These customers would also benefit from a faster turn-around time, receiving their instrument more promptly since wait time would be minimized :)
This approach would also allow me time to work on my other projects such as the windchimes I've been so eager to make. I'd also be able to take some days off and spend time with my family.
So.. when's this happening? On March 4th!!
If you'd like to get on the list before the changes take place, please let me know. Once the 4th comes around it'll be a little while before I begin stocking up the website and there's no telling how things will go...
<3 u all.
This is a seeking of balance. If I halt customs for a little while it will allow me to prepare some pre-mades which will help maintain a flow in both directions; creative expression and fulfillment of need.
