This was filmed with my cell phone. It's the Rising Sun finish on a LotusDrum handpan tuned to Pentatonic Minor
Sound of the Soul with Rhythm – Lotus Drum
Intuitive Meaning: I’ve seen your video’s, the sound is mesmerizing, calming yet inspiring. I could easily see the Lotus Drum as a tool for healing and meditation teachers, and individuals who want a sound-guided meditation tool. Thanks! Love your work!
Really neat video i received from a customer. The Lotus Drum in this instance is paired with Tabla. what a great combo. It's really awesome when someone sends me a video of themselves with the drum I made for them. I always wonder where my drums end up....
I had a few messages wondering where I went lol. Well, I've been busy building and not spending much time blogging. Rest assured I am still around and actively building Lotus Drums.
I'm opening the gates again and will be taking a few orders this coming month. I will only be accepting a very limited number so if you'd like to get on the list contact me soon. The drums have evolved quite a bit from back when I started after coming across the hang drum and getting inspired to make my own handpans.
I need a better microphone but you get the idea. This drum had 12 notes and was neat. I'm open to making more like this.
I'm giving away a custom Lotus Drum in the tuning and color of your choice.

When it hits 200+ shares I will announce a winner :)
While people were out floating the rivers and enjoying the warm weather, I was busy working on some drums and trying something new. After getting a ton of drums prepped up, I found something to do with the left-over scrap material - a gigantic Seed of Life sculpture!
The Seed of Life is the basic building block relating to Sacred Geometry, I'm still learning about it but I can say that after all the drum work it was nice to spend some time on something entirely different utilizing what would otherwise be scraps of metal.
If you would like a Seed of Life, just ask me and I'll make one for you. It looks nice in the garden, it can be hung from a tree or even attached to a wall. They measure about 27" x 27".
I can tune your drum to 440hz or 432hz... if you would like 432hz please let me know..
This image captures the difference in sizes: 12", 14", 16".
I've started on the first 16" Lotus Drum and I'm very pleased with progress thus far.
Soon I will have to make a decision on layout and note quantity. I could fit many more notes on this larger size but at the same time, simplicity sometimes makes it easier for someone to learn a new instrument.
On the other hand, adding many more notes could prove useful for an experienced musician. Maybe I could offer the option of note quantity...? decisions decisions.... I think I'll leave it up to you, just let me know what would suit your needs and I'll do my best to make that happen.
How about that?
I'm still very busy so I can't be entirely sure when I'll have time to continue work on this new drum, but I think I should have one ready in the next week or so. I am taking pre-orders for it though. For now, these larger drums will be fire-blackened(Raku).
In June, I will be working on the first 16" Lotus Drums - 3rd Generation.
The 14" drums will continue to be the "standard" but the 16's will be added to the ensemble as another option, in a relatively similar price-range.
This weekend, I attended a local Yoga Conference and shared a booth with Everett Allen, a restorative Yoga instructor who also deals in Singing Bowls.
He had a variety of mallets on the table and I had the opportunity to try them out on the LotusDrum, what a difference!
I've been a hand drummer for many years and this was the first time I've ever tried playing one of my drums with sticks. The sound was amazing, clear and loud. I was very surprised by the difference it made in the playing experience. I still like to play with the hands but I honestly have to say, everyone should have a set of felt mallets!!!!
For now, all I can do us urge customers to please get themselves a set of short(6") felt mallets, it's totally worth it.
In the future, I will begin making my own mallets with a lathe and will include them with every drum but for now, please find yourself a set, it makes a world of a difference.
He had a few different sizes and lengths and I tried them all, the BEST was the small 6", the longer ones were too cumbersome and the rubber-tipped versions sounded twangy.
If you need help locating a good set, please let me know and I'll send you a link to a suitable pair. Eventually I'll begin making sets in the perfect size/weight.
